Backing away from the daily sketching of 2015, to observe more slowly and acutely.
The Production of Presence (Stanford, CA: Stanford University Press, 2004) is a complicated book, but it is starting to be compelling: Gumbrecht asks if there is an alternative to always looking for meaning in life. Of course, we’ll always try to find meaning, but his answer has to do with showing up (my paraphrase). We discount the notion of being present with each other in our search for reasons why. I want to hear more from Mr. Gumbrecht.
